Previous news:
January 2026: Discussions occurred regarding concerns over rental families, children and health code violations of some properties. Guidelines are available and you may refer to this page to determine who on city staff can be informed. We have also created a form for the neighborhood to document these attempts.
More info: A form, where Steering can keep track of trends, concerns, etc. Use it to let us know you’ve contact the city of city council or the health dept. Use it to document zoning concerns or landlord/owner concerns. Use the form here, but do NOT think we will report things for you. We are stronger as a diverse voice. But, please keep us informed. Access the form HERE.
In Addition, the Safe Families for Children handout from January meeting’s presentation is linked below.

11.2025 : At our November Meeting a new Executive Committee was elected by the new Steering Committee:

10.08.2025 We had a great turnout at our annual meeting where goals were celebrated (Full Demmler Garden, Fantastic Picnic with increased kids attending, a sold out Home Tour, a new Steering Member who even grew up here!) and concerns discussed. The Steering Committee will vote in November to determine officers.
The weekend of Sept 12-13-14 was a big deal. Thriftsale, Picnic, and unfortunately, it also meant the possible loss of a historic property on State St. due to fire. There are 9 apartments affected, a few photos below. Lightening may have played a role. We’ll update the neighborhood if there are ways we can help:

Sept. 13: 25+ houses joined our neighborhood Thriftsale on Seept. 13, here’s shots of the activity! For a $5 entry fee, it’s a deal!

January-March 2025: Zoning work continues, see above link.
Note: older news is in smaller headlines, but if you scroll down you can see back a few years.
Sept. 2024:
This past week, the membership voted on a new Steering Committee:

Furthermore, the upcoming fall season will bring a School District Referendum. More info here.
The referendum wording on the November ballots will read:
Official Operational Referendum Question
November 5, 2024
“Shall the Eau Claire Area School District, Eau Claire, Chippewa and Dunn Counties, Wisconsin be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $18,000,000 for the 2024-2025 school year and for each of the succeeding 3 school years thereafter, for non-recurring purposes to fund operating costs to ensure stability of educational programs, including elementary reading; behavioral and mental health resources for students; school safety; and to sustain student to staff ratios?”
The yearly property impact of the referendum is estimated to be $99 per $100,000 of assessed value*
Here’s a video they’ve produced that explains why now and what exactly the referendum covers.

2023 Fall meetings elect Steering Committee, Steering Elects their officers
In September 2023, dozens of members attended and we chose a new steering committee. We had 13 running for 10 seats, and the following members were chosen. Then, according to bylaws, in October the new Steering chose their officers, and they are listed below. Update: July ’24: There have been minor changes since the winter of ’23, Marian Ritland is now Vice Chairman and Jackie Roelant has resigned.

2023 Picnic a huge success!
Over 30 residents enjoyed a perfect night and had a great time enjoying our Demmler Park on Sunday, Sept. 17th.

30 Families join our annual thriftsale!
On Sept. 9th, 30 Third Ward families participated in selling treasures and trinkets along with clothing, children’s items and more! Some young entrepreneurs sold lemonade and coffee, others shopped for treasures, neighbors greeted one another. We were lucky and had a beautiful day!
