TWNA Zoning Updates

April 2024

We had a great turnout again for our discussion with city officials on April 10th. See minutes here with our questions and their answers. The take-a-way from this is we must stay involved in the review process. The Zoning overhaul will be voted on at the end of 2024. We will be definitely communicating with the city as an organization, but using the links below, you can see the city pages on ZPAC and follow along yourself.

March 2024

Our March 13th General Meeting included a presentation by our Executive Committee and our Zoning Task force on what the Zoning PRELIMINARY report means. You can view it here.
Thank you to all our neighbors who attended!! This is the time to VOICE OUR CONCERNS OR SUPPORT. Please review our presentation, and also look at the interactive maps (you need to scroll down inside the box with the photo of the city) that are on the Zoning website that the consultants were paid to produce. Send us an email with any questions or concerns you want addressed in April when we meet with the City Planner, City Council and other staff. ALL residents are encouraged to attend the meeting. We will be sharing the questions with everyone on our email list in a few weeks. Do you get our emails? Sign up HERE.

February 2024

Neighborhoods are invited to attend the next public open house on Monday, February 19th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. at the Library, on the third floor.

There will be information about the new zoning districts and land use images/standards to review and to ask questions and provide input. An interactive proposed zoning map and the draft code text was released on February 9th, and you may view the proposed changes HERE, they will be presented at the Open House.

In the same location at the library, the City Council and Plan Commission will meet before the open house from 4 pm to 6 pm for their next Zoning Policy Advisory Committee (ZPAC) meeting. You are also welcomed to attend to listen into their discussion. Immediately after the ZPAC meeting, the public is also invited to share their input on the proposed zoning districts and allowed uses at an open house (6:30PM to 7:30PM, February 19th at LE Phillips Library, Riverview Room, 3rd Floor).

The latest documents can be reviewed at the Century Code project website (see Preliminary Recommendations Report). If you have not been on the website before, there is a calendar to see upcoming events, educational videos on zoning, and lots of other information/public engagement materials.

January 2024

A volunteer committee has been formed with Vice Chair Jim Erickson heading it. All are welcome to help determine the feedback we wish to give the city from our neighborhood.

Use our contact form to send us an email if you’d like to possibly be involved in the committee. This committee will be charged with providing some preliminary feedback and questions to City Council before their Feb. 19th meeting that is a Zoning-focused meeting at the Library.

“The next ZPAC meeting will be 4PM to 6PM on February 19th at LE Phillips Library. The public is invited to listen to the presentation and ZPAC member discussion regarding the first set of draft code sections.

On January 12, the city released this update:

On Dec. 18th, the Zoning Policy Advisory Committee (ZPAC) reviewed, refined, and discussed the existing ordinance diagnostic report and preliminary recommendations memo with Eau Claire staff and the consultant team. They are now posted on the project website for public review and comment. Here is that link.

Click the image above to visit the Zoning page for residents. There are videos, a summary of citizen input, etc.

TWNA will update this page with links and new info as it becomes available. There is too much information to summarize and we strongly suggest you spend a few minutes looking at the report and other documents on the documents tab.

December 2023:
Things being discussed were Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and “Gentle Density” where some lots may be re-zoned to allow the owner to place additional units on their property. This is not a decision, but concerns us, as guidelines must be written so these new structures MUST add to the character of the neighborhood. We will keep the neighborhood apprised of ANY meetings or opportunities for input.

On November 7th several of our executive committee and interested residents were invited to attend a Zoning Discussion at Banbury place. This involved neighborhoods including Eastside Hill, Randall Park and Third Ward, in addition to realtors, builders, city staff and other neighborhood leaders. Here is some information from that meeting:
